Lord Lamebrain has decided that parents are killing their children because social workers aren’t catching them in time. While that was likely to be true in several cases, it’s not true in most of them. I have little time for the Department of Busybodies that is the SS, but even I have to recognise that they are not psychic.
Ed Balls, the Monster all children should fear, is going to ‘do something about it’, He’s going to train those social workers, presumably in tea-leaf reading and crystal-ball gazing because that’s the only way most of those child killings can be stopped.
Actually it’s not the only way.
The reason so many children die at home is not the fault of the social workers. It’s the fault of the parents and partners who abuse and kill them. It’s not capitalism that has led to so much child abuse. It’s not unemployment that has led to a rash of killings. It’s not even the case that the parents kill the kid before the kid grows up and kills them (although some must be worried about that). Avoiding the real issue is a particular expertise of this government and to be fair, the opposition are pretty good at it too. The real issue is that parents abuse and kill their own children and all we hear is ‘We must predict which ones will do this and take the children away even if we’re wrong’. What we never hear is ‘Why?’
These children were not born to parents who wanted a child. They were born to parents who wanted a free flat and free money. They never wanted the child in the first place. It’s a ticket, that’s all. A permit to get freebies. Something to be kept in a drawer and presented to the proper authorities at handout time.
There are many out there now who have a dog because they really wanted to have a dog. They love that dog. They had children because they wanted to have a house and free cash. They love that house and free cash. See the difference?
There are mothers out there telling their daughters ‘get pregnant, you’ll have everything for free’. The child is incidental. The child is the route into freebieland and pretty soon, the child is just in the way. They did not have a child because they wanted a child. The last thing they wanted was a rug-muncher crapping and puking over their Reeboks and painting with mushy peas on that plasma screen. They turn their anger on the child and then comes the abuse, sometimes leading to a killing.
Far too many children are born simply so the mother will get benefits. That’s where the blame lies. With irresponsible, unthinking people who aren’t ready for parenthood, don’t want it and yet see it as the way to Benefit Heaven. These people might have been good parents had they waited, found a job, set up home in a stable relationship and had that child when they were ready, when they felt they really wanted the child for its own sake. Not for the freebies. For the child.
Social workers don’t have Minority Report powers. They can’t predict which single mothers are in that situation because they wanted a child and found they couldn’t cope, nor which of them are cynical benefit sappers who had the child for the money and nothing more. They can’t predict which ones will go bad. They can’t realistically react until something happens, nor should they. It’s not the fault of the Busybodies.
As long as we have a system which encourages single women to have a child for benefits, this is going to get worse.
If Ed Balls wants to do something, he should stop his government paying women to have kids. Stop passing the buck and avoiding the issue. The issue is that benefits system, set up to reward and encourage irresponsible behaviour.
Stop giving them benefits. Give them free condoms instead. If there’s no reward for irresponsibility, those children won’t be abused because they won’t be born until their parents are ready for them, and actually want them.
In the meantime, they could get a dog.
